Falconry at Blenheim Palace

The Barn Owl was great to watch in flight, but others were more picturesque on the ground:

Apparently the key to falconry is feeding. These proud birds of prey are effectively infantilized by continued feeding – why would they strike out for themselves? – and careful control of their food determines whether they perform as required.

The birds were grand, beautiful creatures: a joy to behold, free or not.
