Today, I hosted the launch of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine’s ‘Accident & Emergency: Essential Facts’.

As the Secretary of State said during his speech at the event, the fact sheet produced by RCEM focuses the mind on the challenges facing emergency care today. The year 2014 saw 14.6 million patient attendances to A&E, equating to 30 patients per minute.

The RCEM have produced a video summarising the key facts and data around A&Es and Emergency Medicine in the UK:

I was privileged to host and chair this event, introducing the comments of both the President of the RCEM, Dr. Clifford Mann, and the Secretary of State Jeremy Hunt. I hope this fact sheet goes some way towards highlighting the challenges facing emergency care in a clear, concise manner leading to a constructive debate.
