Publication of the 2017 Cross-Government Drug Strategy

The Government’s 2017 Drug Strategy has now been published, and I know that this plan will be of particular interest to those who work with individuals desperately trying to break away from a destructive cycle of addiction.

Charities such as DrugFAM as well as our local NHS teams perform this critically important work in Wycombe often in the most difficult of circumstances and I hope this strategy can support our local providers and charities.

You can read more about the Government’s Strategy via this weblink. This plan sets out the Government’s expectations and the actions the Government will take nationally to support local partners to

  • Collectively protect individuals, particularly young people, by preventing the onset and escalation of drug use
  • Targeting those criminals seeking to profit from others’ misery and restrict the availability of drugs
  • Offer individuals with a drug dependence problem the best chance of recovery

The strategy also includes the introduction of a national recovery champion, visiting different communities and providers and supporting collaboration in key areas such as mental health and employment. I look forward to seeing this strategy being put into action to tackle the significant harms that drugs can cause.
