Conservatives are strengthening our NHS

In Wycombe, we are proud of the improvements our local NHS staff have delivered since 2010. By keeping our economy strong we’ve been able to support our NHS since 2010. That’s why we are providing the biggest cash boost in the history of the NHS and the Prime Minister is making it his immediate task to ensure that people start seeing this funding in their local GP surgeries and local hospitals. This will make a real difference to the lives of NHS staff and patients in […]

NHS Infrastructure and waiting times for GP appointments

I recently asked sent a number of Written Parliamentary Questions to the Department of Health and Social Care. I asked the Department what steps were being taken to build and renovate hospitals over the next ten years; and what steps were being taken to reduce GP waiting times in Wycombe. You can read the full answers below, but I was pleased that: Around £2.4 billion has been awarded since July 2017 to modernise and transform the NHS’s buildings and services. […]

NHS Long Term Plan

I was pleased to see the Government outline the NHS Long Term Plan, an historic moment for patients in Wycombe and across the country, which will protect the health service now and for generations to come, ensuring the NHS is always there for you and your family. Thanks to the Government’s investment of £20.5 billion a year in real terms by 2023-24, the Long Term Plan will transform patient care and seek to ensure every penny of taxpayer’s money is […]

Visit of Professor Jonathan Benger to Wycombe Hospital

Post Image

I know that almost everyone living in High Wycombe would like to see A&E at Wycombe Hospital so I recently met Professor Jonathan Benger who is the National Clinical Director for Urgent Care for NHS England. Professor Benger is the most senior clinician to advise the NHS on accident and emergency services in the country. He has extensive experience of pre-hospital care, led or collaborated on many grant-funded research projects and authored a number of peer-reviewed publications. Professor Benger has previously chaired the Clinical […]

Accountable Care Systems

Today I would like to join leaders across the health and social care system in Buckinghamshire in welcoming yesterday’s announcement from NHS England that Buckinghamshire will be part of the first wave of Accountable Care Systems being created around the country to deliver improvements to local health care. The system is designed to end the ‘fractured’ health and social care system that leaves too many patients passed from ‘pillar to post’. Local leaders, health experts and communities will have more […]

A Parliamentary Question about the NHS and Small Businesses

Post Image

During Department of Health questions on 7th February 2017, I raised a question with the Department of Health about NHS providers making slow payments to small businesses. This question arose from casework that I have been working on in Wycombe. Steve Baker MP: A small business in my constituency was driven out of business by slow payments for relatively small sums by NHS providers. Will he ensure strict compliance with the guidelines for timely payments? Philip Dunne MP (Minister of State Department of […]

Making Kadcyla available on the NHS

Post Image

On 26th January 2017, I attended a back bench business debate in Parliament about the provisional decision not to provide the breast cancer drug Kadcyla for use in the NHS. The debate called for the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and pharmaceutical company Roche to re-assess the decision and ensure Kadcyla is kept available for patients. I spoke briefly to represent patients in Wycombe: I congratulate the hon. Member for Mitcham and Morden (Siobhain McDonagh) on securing […]

Community Pharmacies: Letter from Minister

Post Image

I have now received a letter from the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Department of Health, David Mowat MP about the future of community pharmacy. I had attended the Minister’s statement in the Houses of Parliament on 20th October but I had also written to the Minister about this issue. There had been considerable local interest in the issue, especially in Downley, Lane End and Marlow Bottom. The Minister has said that from 1st December, the Government will Simplify the outdated […]

NHS Sustainability and Transformation Plans must be published by the end of November

Post Image

In Wycombe, we all care passionately about the NHS and the future of local NHS services. Many local online activists sent campaign emails about the NHS Five Year Forward View and the Sustainability and Transformation Plans which will deliver it. On Tuesday 11th October, I raised the the issue at Health Questions: Mr Steve Baker (Wycombe) (Con): If he will take steps to ensure that clinical commissioning groups publish their proposals for implementing the NHS “Five Year Forward View”. The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of […]

The Future of Community Pharmacies

Post Image

On 20 October, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Department of Health, David Mowat MP, made a statement about the future of community pharmacy.  There was considerable local interest in the issue, especially in Downley, Lane End and Marlow Bottom, so I am delighted that the Government will introduce a Pharmacy Access Scheme in areas where there are fewer pharmacies and higher health needs. The Marlow Bottom Pharmacy, the Lane End Pharmacy, the Downley Pharmacy, Lansdales Pharmacy at Penn Surgery, the Tesco […]
