Business trip to New York

Manhattan, originally uploaded by stevenjbaker.

Flew there Sunday, trained a team of financial professionals Monday, training and consulting Tuesday and flew home overnight. I thoroughly recommend Smith and Wollensky for steak, but go hungry! A great pleasure to visit a great city.

This is the way to do it: with just four hours difference at this time of year and a short trip, jet lag is no problem. Economy seats through the night, however, win no friends.

(Took my compact camera, forgetting the battery, so we’re stuck with this scrappy iPhone image. That’s the remarkable art deco Chysler Building top left.)

A week off in Sharm El Sheik, Egypt

The extremely good yet affordable white wine was from the Bekaa Valley, Lebanon.

RAF Sek Kong

My first Big Adventure was travelling to Hong Kong for a month as an RAF cadet: oddly enough, I now have an industrial placement student who is from Hong Kong.

Next time I have a month…

I intend to ride the Route Napoleon, then explore the south of France and into the Alps.

Coming with me?

One for Mum

It’s an old adventure now, but I did love working in North Norway as JEngO 41(F) Squadron, which operated Jaguars in the tactical recce and close air support roles.

Fortunately, the Russians weren’t coming after all.

This week’s Big Adventure: Mumbai

My current client has placed me in Mumbai (neé Bombay) for a week. It’s now 04:00 here and I’m up at 07:00. Oh dear.

India impresses so far. The airport was the most efficient I have ever seen: perhaps 30 sec delay through passport control, then my bags were waiting. Pick up was immediate, polite and efficient and the hotel is splendid. Not quite the melee I was expecting…
