I am for peace and a strong defence. I reject war and I seek to build up those bonds of friendship which promote peaceful social cooperation across and despite boundaries.
While clearly it has been breached repeatedly, the Kellogg-Briand pact of 1929 renounced war for the settlement of international disputes. It remains in force.
I am persuaded that the United Kingdom should maintain a nuclear deterrent. This is partly because I accept Van Creveld’s argument that nuclear weapons make total war impossible.
