Work set to start on alternative route through town centre

bcc_thumbBuckinghamshire County Council contractors are due to start work next week on Wycombe’s new Westbourne Street Link.

The work, expected to be completed in October, is the first phase in giving traffic an alternative route through the town centre, from Oxford Road to Marlow Hill. Phase two, from the Southern end of the new Westbourne Steet Link along Desborough Road through the old gas works to Marlow Hill roundabout, is anticipated to start by March 2016.

The ‘Alternative Route’ is designed to encourage low traffic speeds, a reduction in stop-start delays and pollution effects, whilst improving safety for pedestrians and cyclists. It is part of High Wycombe’s Masterplan, a joint project between Wycombe District and Buckinghamshire County Council to strengthen the town centre as a focus for jobs, shopping and leisure.
