Pleased to have an update from the Department for Health and Social care on the Governments plans to ramp up domestic production of personal protective equipment (PPE).

The provision and distribution of PPE to our frontline staff is critical. The Government have expanded our warehousing and distribution facilities to manage the unprecedented levels of demand across the wider public sector, calling on resources from the Department of Health & Social Care, the NHS and the Ministry of Defence.

In the past few weeks, the Government have had over 8,000 offers to supply PPE. They are currently receiving 400 more each day and are actively engaged in more than 1,000 of these, while over 2,000 have been assessed and rejected. They are rapidly increasing their capacity to process and respond to these offers and will have cleared most of these by early next week.
