The Referendum Result in the Wycombe Constituency

The EU Referendum was a national vote, counted on council areas and not by constituencies. This means we have the result for Wycombe District but not Wycombe constituency.  Wycombe constituency contains about three fifths of the voters in the District as a whole, with the remainder coming from the Aylesbury, Beaconsfield and Buckingham parliamentary constituencies. The respective boundaries are indicated in the Ordnance Survey Election Map below. The pink lines are district boundaries and the black constituencies.  Voting papers from […]

We must stand firm and reject Theresa May’s Brexit deal or we will live to regret it

The following article first appeared in the Telegraph on 20 March 2019. It may be accessed here: bit.ly/WAStandFirm. The one advantage of the Cabinet’s Withdrawal Agreement is that it would allow us to claim Brexit on March 29. Of course, some colleagues are attracted to it – but the British people have already spotted a dud deal. According to ComRes polling yesterday, 54 per cent say it does not deliver. Just 14 per cent approve. If we put this agreement through and Theresa May […]

Question to the PM – the time for Project Fear is over

Post Image

Yesterday, I had the following exchange with the Prime Minister during the statement on the triggering of Article 50, which began the process of our exit from the European Union: Mr Steve Baker (Wycombe) (Con) Since the vote, the economic news has confounded expectations. Economists for Free Trade have told us how WTO rules with the right policies can cut consumer prices and raise GDP, and the Legatum Institute special trade commissioners have given us every reason to believe that […]
