The Government is Increasing Hospital Capacity across Bucks

Post Image

I was pleased to receive the news this week that Stoke Mandeville Hospital would receive £10.58 million in extra funding to increase capacity as part of the Urgent and Emergency Care Recovery Plan. This investment is part of the £250 million recently allocated by the Government to increase capacity at NHS hospitals and it will help Wycombe residents. This investment will enable the Trust to build a new unit at Stoke Mandeville which will provide space for up to an […]

Half a day’s net EU contribution would clear our annual local NHS Trust deficit

Post Image

Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust’s deficit this year is £10 million. Our net EU contribution is equivalent to £23 million per day. In other words, just half a day’s net contribution to the EU by UK taxpayers would cover the annual deficit of our local NHS Trust. As I set out in my article on the cost of EU membership, the UK is billed the equivalent of over £50m a day by the EU. After taking into account our negotiable rebate and payments by the EU to UK farmers, […]

Fairer funding for health in Wycombe

Post Image

Today, local campaigners will be handing a petition to Downing Street about fairer funding. I am disappointed that constituency engagements in Wycombe and very short notice mean I am unable to join them. I understand the text of the petition is as follows: We ask you [the Chancellor] to ensure that Buckinghamshire not only receives the national average in funds, but we also receive enough public funding so that key services are restored to Wycombe Hospital. I have twice submitted petitions to the […]

The Bucks Free Press noted that temporary staff costs amounted to £22 million from April to December 2015. Workforce recruitment and retention in Bucks are key challenges. The cost of living in the local area relative to the NHS national pay structure is an important factor to be considered. With the exception of London […]

A&E – a journey to Wexham Park Hospital

About nine years ago, Wycombe Hospital lost A&E. People tell me to get it back and I would love to.  As a democratically-elected representative, I would have already returned A&E to Wycombe if it were as simple as having the intent and making the demand. Unfortunately, Wycombe is one of over 20 hospitals across the country which serve populations large enough to have had an A&E in the past but too small to retain one given changes to medical practice. […]

NHS improvements in Bucks

There was encouraging news from Bucks NHS Trust following recommendations made by the Keogh review earlier this year. A meeting this month found that there had been “real progress” in the Trust’s efforts to improve the quality of care it provides. Representatives from NHS England, Trust Development Authority, Care Quality Commission and local Clinical Commissioning Groups, and staff from Buckinghamshire Healthcare were able to detail a number of initiatives and developments that are now in place to help improve care […]
