The migrants who had previously been living at the camp have been entered into the French immigration and asylum system. The Government have announced their intention to resettle child refugees from Europe. This is in addition to the 3,000 vulnerable children and family members to be resettled direct from the Middle East and North Africa, and the 20,000 people being resettled directly from Syrian refugee communities. Those at risk of trafficking or exploitation will be prioritised for resettlement, while existing family reunion routes will be accelerated. Following Monday’s consideration of Lords amendments to the Immigration Bill, there has been a furious backlash challenging the humanity and, where relevant, faith of those of us who supported the Government.
