County Council Members’ Allowances remain frozen


Bucks County Council recently approved an independent panel’s recommendations that included continuing a freeze on Member allowances since 2009 and identifying savings of over £60,000 a year. Mike Appleyard, Deputy Leader of Buckinghamshire County Council said: Clearly the Panel’s recommendations on Members’ allowances rightly reflected the financial pressures on today’s public sector. HS2: Update


I have continuously campaigned against a second state-funded high speed rail programme. It is slowly transpiring that the business case is collapsing. The benefit cost ratio (BCR) for phase 1 has fallen from 2.4 in March 2010 to just 1.2 today and 1.4 for the whole of the Y spur extension. Motions for an “early day”


Last night’s adjournment debate on Early Day Motions (EDMs) was a welcome push towards reform of this outdated, expensive and ineffective piece of Parliamentary theatre.
