Motorcycle Action Group – defending riders’ rights since 1973

Post Image

I was concerned to learn from former MP Lembit Öpik that his new employer, Motorcycle Action Group, has been casually besmirched in passing during a court case. As a member of MAG and Chair of the Associate Parliamentary Group on Motorcycling, I object. MAG is a serious, strategic and focussed riders’ rights body. Its appeal is built on many years of hard and often unrewarding work in political circles by dedicated experts. In my regular dealings with MAG’s senior staff, I […]

The EU: adding dreary bureaucracy, aggravation and expense to the joy of motorcycling

Post Image

Tonight, I led a rather early adjournment debate on motorcycle rider licensing, where the EU has added to the joy of motorcyling, the dreariness, aggravation and expense of capricious bureaucracy. I was grateful to Norman Baker for answering the debate in the place of Mike Penning, who has just moved to the Northern Ireland office, after stoically defending riders rights and liberties as Roads Minister. Licensing is not the first battle that bikers have had to fight against the EU. […]

EU Hands Off Biking demonstration tomorrow

Post Image

Via Motorcycle Action Group: 24th June 2012 will involve 12 major demonstrations, to coincide with the 12 EU Parliamentary Constituencies that exist in the UK. Instead we’ll leave the outside lane free, which is also important for emergency services I’m not riding tomorrow – I […]

Pro-bike, anti-EU. What’s not to like?

Via Action Now! EU Hands Off Biking: There’s a raft of issues emanating from Europe that will have a profound effect on riders and the motorcycle industry generally and we must stand up. Some of them are driven by the EU Commission, like the new Type Approval and Market Surveillance Regulation that will see the introduction of compulsory ABS, the sealing of powertrains from airbox to the diameter and aspect ratio of the rear tyre, restrictions on the aftermarket industry, possible […]

Wycombe Motorcycle Action Group

Post Image

Following a number of private meetings across the Wycombe constituency yesterday, from Fingest to the town centre, I had the pleasure of meeting Wycombe Motorcycle Action Group. From MAG’s about page: The Motorcycle Action Group, (MAG), is a voluntary organisation, drawing membership from across the whole spectrum of motorcycling. Whatever you ride MAG has something for you! MAG was born out of protest against legislation, introduced in 1973, making it compulsory to wear a crash helmet. Since then MAG has […]
