Your money is being spent to help millions of people join the EU

Post Image

We are paying almost £2 billion to encourage Macedonia, Albania, Montenegro, Serbia and Turkey to join the EU. When they join, over 88 million more people will have a right to live and work in the UK. The Government cannot control migration from the EU if we remain. We have a flourishing economy in this country with great public services and a National Living Wage. That is bound to attract more people. Free movement of people is a noble dream but many local people despair of the cost […]

Protect our public services

Post Image

The EU makes many rules which have a massive impact on our public services. With plans for taking control of health policy in each of its member states, the EU’s influence over our NHS will only increase. As an undemocratic backroom manoeuvre, the EU Commission is creating and implementing policies which will greatly affect our local services without so much as asking UK citizens for consent. One such initiative is the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), which poverty campaign group, War on Want, called: An […]

Decisions made in our Parliament and our courts can be struck down by the EU

Post Image

Decisions made in our Parliament and our courts can be struck down by the EU. European Union law trumps the laws and courts of the UK. Important policies, including in areas such as immigration and VAT, can be completely overturned by the EU. For example, Parliament wants to end the Tampon Tax by charging no VAT on sanitary products. The EU blocks this reform. Those who don’t like or support the party of government in the UK have it within their power to vote them […]

Half a day’s net EU contribution would clear our annual local NHS Trust deficit

Post Image

Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust’s deficit this year is £10 million. Our net EU contribution is equivalent to £23 million per day. In other words, just half a day’s net contribution to the EU by UK taxpayers would cover the annual deficit of our local NHS Trust. As I set out in my article on the cost of EU membership, the UK is billed the equivalent of over £50m a day by the EU. After taking into account our negotiable rebate and payments by the EU to UK farmers, […]

The EU isn’t working

Post Image

It is increasingly clear that the EU isn’t working for its members. Much has been claimed about the importance of the EU for creating and preserving jobs in the UK. Unemployment in the UK is currently at 5 percent, compared with the EU’s 8.9 percent and the Eurozone’s 10.3 percent. The EU is not working. With a youth unemployment rate of 19.4 percent compared with the UK’s 13.6 percent, the EU is particularly failing its young citizens, especially those in southern countries: […]

Our EU Referendum choice this Thursday, 23 June

Post Image

We will soon choose together what kind of government will best promote our common good. There are risks on both sides of the question on the ballot paper.  In a world of unexpected events, trial and error, we need institutions of government which are agile and accountable to the public. Our parliamentary democracy has evolved over centuries to provide both. Today, the European Union sits above our Parliament and our law. It is failing. High youth unemployment, extraordinary monetary policy […]

Outside the EU, the UK can make its own trade deals

Post Image

Inside the EU, the UK is unable to make any trade deals of its own. We must rely on the EU negotiating on our behalf. We are at the mercy of 27 other EU countries serving their own interests. For example, the EU trade deal with Canada is stalled in a row over visa-free travel for Romania and Bulgaria. The Remain campaign is peddling scare stories, pessimism and implausible assumptions about our trade. It’s in everyone’s mutual interests smoothly to agree to continue open trading relations. There […]

There will be further integration whatever the outcome of the referendum

Post Image

The EU is always changing. This isn’t a choice between change and the status quo. Voting to Leave is to vote for freedom and control; voting to Remain is to vote for a future of further integration which is out of our hands. The EU’s recent “Five President’s Report” sets out transfers of control over: Taxation Social security Property rights Insolvency law Company law Our place in international institutions  This report stated that: This will inevitably involve sharing more sovereignty over time The European Commission have […]

Every EU citizen has a right to live and work in the UK

Post Image

EU citizenship gives the right to live and work anywhere in the EU on the same basis as the citizens of each member state. Every citizen of each member state is also an EU citizen. Within the EU, we are forbidden from controlling migration from the EU. Meanwhile, local people’s families outside the EU often face harsh barriers just to visit. In the ten years to 2024, the UK’s population is projected to grow by 440,000 per year – roughly a city the […]
